Characters Reading: Henrietta Wilson (9-1-1)

In the 9-1-1 episode Starting Over (season 5 episode 18), Henrietta "Hen" Wilson was trying to read during some down time. I'm not sure if this is a textbook or reference book for medical school or a personal non-school related book she was reading. Anyway, her reading time was temporarily interrupted when a TV news report by Taylor Kelly was beginning to air. Hen along with some of th other firefighters were so annoyed by Taylor Kelly and her reporting that Hen immediately turned off the TV. And then she went right back to reading her book.

Trailer: Wednesday season 2

Now that Wednesday Addams is back at school for another year, things seem like they are only going to get darker but also fun as well in this second season of Wednesday. I love this little enchanting series that follows the ghoulish Wednesday who always seems to find an interesting mystery. And from looking at the trailer, it looks like her family maybe getting more screen time. I adore Enid, she just so bubbly and cheerful which is the perfect counterbalance to Wednesday's broody dry wit.

As much as I love this series and can't wait to see the second season, my only pet peeve is still that they changed the birth order for Pugsley and Wednesday. They made Wednesday the older sibling instead of Pugsley, which makes absolutely no sense. The show would still be the same if he was the older sibling, since the show is all about Wednesday. It's just the only thing that annoys me.

Anyway, the first half of the second season of Wednesday premieres on Wednesday, August 6th on Netflix. And the second half will premiere on Wednesday, September 3rd.

Bring Back Bobby Nash Petition (9-1-1)

I took a few days off from being online, and I returned to find out that a 9-1-1 fan has created a petition to bring back Fire Captain Bobby Nash. It was started a week ago and here's the link if you would like to sign. So far, there is already over 10,000 signatures and counting.

Ever since Bobby was killed off in the 9-1-1 episode Lab Rats (season 8 episode 15), there has been a very big and swift backlash to the decision to kill off this popular and beloved character. Fans have been speaking out and voicing their opinions a lot such as on the 9-1-1 official Instagram account, IMDb, sending ABC Feedback and writing their opinions on Twitter, their own personal blogs and other various social media.

So, I'm not surprised that there has been a petition created. It still makes no sense storywise to kill off Bobby. It will be interesting to see how this petition will go. Also, 9-1-1 fans would like it if fans would sign the petition and share it so others can sign it as well.

9-1-1 Fandom: Leave Feedback with ABC about the Eighth Season

I am so disappointed with last night's episode of 9-1-1 because to kill Bobby off for nothing more than shock value is unbelievably bad writing. And to have excluded Eddie from the big two-part episode is so ridiculous. I have so much more to say about this but right now I'm still too mad to write about it.

If you would like to contact ABC to leave feedback. Here is the link to ABC's Programming Feedback. You can also call, here is the phone number for the ABC Viewer Feedback: 1-818-460-7477.

Book of Interest: The Art of Ruth E. Carter: Costuming Black History and the Afrofuture, from Do the Right Thing to Black Panther

I just love how there is so much that goes into telling a story which is why I've always been fascinated by Costume Designers. And how they can create the perfect costumes for the characters. What they do is so much more than just picking clothes. Some of the Costume Designers such as award winner Ruth E. Carter do such an amazing job that they make it look so easy. However, they have a lot of skill, knowledge and experience which allows them to not only understand the characters but also how the characters wardrobe goes with the scene.

I'm a big fan of art of and behind the scene books for movies and TV shows, I love reading as much information as I can and seeing all the concept art and behind the scene pictures. Which is why I want to get this book, The Art of Ruth E. Carter: Costuming Black History and the Afrofuture, from Do the Right Thing to Black Panther by Ruth E. Carter. This seems like an interesting read, it's part biography and part behind the scenes.

Book: The Art of Ruth E. Carter: Costuming Black History and the Afrofuture, from Do the Right Thing to Black Panther by Ruth E. Carter with Foreword by Danai Gurira

Description:

The definitive, deluxe art book from costume design legend Ruth E. Carter.

Ruth E. Carter is a living legend of costume design. For three decades, she has shaped the story of the Black experience on screen—from the ’80s streetwear of Do the Right Thing to the royal regalia of Coming 2 America. Her work on Marvel's Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever not only brought Afrofuturism to the mainstream, but also made her the first Black winner of an Oscar in costume design and the first Black woman to win two Academy Awards in any category. In 2021, she became the second-ever costume designer to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Trailer: The Parenting

Why am I just now finding out about this horror comedy movie, The Parenting. It's stressful enough meeting your significant other's parents but then to meet them while staying in a haunted house. Yeah, that's beyond stressful.

I just love finding these random movies. The Parenting was released March 13th but I never heard anything about it. Anyone else heard about this movie? I only found out about it when I spotted the trailer and watch it. This looks like a totally ridiculous movie that I can't wait to watch.

The Parenting (HBO Max)

Starring: Nik Dodani, Brandon Flynn, Brian Cox, Edie Falco, Lisa Kudrow, Dean Norris, Vivian Bang, Parker Posey and more

Director: Craig Johnson

Writers: Kent Sublette

Comic Book Wednesday: Catwoman: Lonely City

I'm bringing back my Comic Book Wednesday post but in a different way. Since I got so behind on reading my comics, I got rid of my pull list at my local comic book store. I still go there to get comics, I just don't have time to go ever week like I used to. Anyway, I'm going to use this new Comic Book Wednesday to highlight comics that I'm interested in reading whether in trade or single print.

A book that I want to read is Catwoman: Lonely City by Cliff Chiang. It's set in the future where surprisingly Catwoman was actually in prison but it's also a world where Batman, Nightwing and others have died (or perhaps murdered) during Fools' Night. According to the description, Catowman is looking pull off one last heist but will she be able to especially with Harvey Dent (a.k.a Two-Face) as the Mayor of Gotham. This just seems like a really interesting story.

Book: Catwoman: Lonely City by Cliff Chiang

Description:

In a world without Batman…will Selina Kyle’s old wounds tear Gotham City apart? Cliff Chiang writes and illustrates the ultimate Catwoman masterpiece!

Ten years ago, the massacre known as Fools’ Night claimed the lives of Batman, the Joker, Nightwing, and Commissioner Gordon…and sent Selina Kyle, the Catwoman, to prison.

A decade later, Gotham has grown up—it’s put away costumed heroism and villainy as childish things. The new Gotham is cleaner, safer…and a lot less free, under the watchful eye of Mayor Harvey Dent and his Batcops. It’s into this new city that Selina Kyle returns, a changed woman…with her mind on that one last big score: the secrets hidden inside the Batcave! She doesn’t need the money—she just needs to know…who is “Orpheus”?

Visionary creator Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman, Paper Girls) writes, draws, colors, and letters the story of a world without Batman, where one woman’s wounds threaten to tear apart an entire city! It’s an unmissable artistic statement that will change the way you see Gotham’s heroes and villains forever!

Characters Reading: Prince Henry (Red, White & Royal Blue)

In this scene from the movie Red, White & Royal Blue, Prince Henry at night was reading the classic novel, Howards End by E.M. Forster. Henry is a total bookworm, he reads a lot of books and seems to enjoy talking about them and references them. Anyway, back to this scene, Henry didn't get a chance to finish reading because First Son Alexander Claremont-Diaz unexpectantly showed up to Kensington Palace. Henry had been ignoring Alex's calls, so Alex got on a plane and flew out to see him. He not only wanted answers to why Henry was ignoring his calls but to also declare his love for him even though he didn't think Henry would do the same. Which set up a very important and passionate converstation between them which highlighted how complicated Henry believed his life was. And although he loves Alex, he may not be able to live the life that he wants due to his royal status.

I love this movie, it's been a while since I've seen it. Maybe I'll rewatch it sometime this week or the weekend. And at some point I'm going to read the book Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

Motivation Monday: Go Outside

If you find yourself feeling stressed going out into nature could help in reducing it. A study found that when you spend time in nature, your mood improved. Researchers found that being outside led to a more calmed and destressed feeling. That's because being out in nature helps restore your mood and calms the mind. And additional benefits, it helps to restore your attention span and usually doesn't cost anything to be outside.

So to get this mood improving benefits, you don't have to spend hours hiking in the woods or going on long walks (unless that's what you love to do) but somethng as simple as a five minute walk, sitting outside or just being outside for a few minutes doing nothing except relaxing and enjoying nature will go a long way.

So if you find yourself dealing with a bit of stress and if possible, take a few minutes to go outside and enjoy nature. Also, don't forget the sunscreen.

Fandom Thoughts #9: How Eddie and Christopher could have been included in the 9-1-1 episode Sick Day

Happy Saturday!

I keep thinking about this week's 9-1-1 episode Sick Day (season 8 episode 14). And the more I think about it, the more disappointed I am that Edmundo "Eddie" and Christopher Diaz were not in it. This was the first episode of a big two-part story and the Showrunner and writers made no effort to include Eddie and Chris who are both main characters. Yes, at the moment they are both in El Paso, TX but that doesn't mean they couldn't be inlcuded in the episode. Not to mention that Eddie is a former Army medic who is trained for emergencies dealing with bio weapons. He would have been a good addition to this story especially if him and Chris had already moved back to Los Angels. But since they are still in El Paso, I have two scenes to show how they could have been included.

First, there could have been a scene at the beginning of the episode with Eddie and Chris at home doing a quick FaceTime with Evan "Buck" Buckley. And as Eddie gets ready to take Chris to school and start his day as a Uber driver, Buck is either getting ready to go to work or is already at the fire station. And as they are having this quick little conversation, Eddie could end it by saying to Buck that him and Chris will catch up with him later and for Buck to have a good day at work. And then the episode could have continued as it did with it being one of the worst days of work for Buck.

(9-1-1 season 5 episode 18: Starting Over)

Then the second scene closes out the episode. The scene would have Chris in the living room sitting on the couch watching TV while Eddie is either in the kitchen washing dishes or doing some small repair somewhwere in the house. While Chris is watching TV, breaking news interrupts and shows the situation happening at the lab in Los Angeles. Chris then calls out to his dad, Eddie quickly runs into the room, sits down on the couch and sees the devastating news segment. And then have the scene ending with a close up shot of a worried Eddie and Chris.

(9-1-1 season 6 episode 15: Death and Taxes)

It would have been so easy to include scenes like this in the episode. Because it makes absolutely no sense that the showrunner and writers couldn't spare a few minutes to have included Eddie and Chris. I hope they will be in the next episode.

Most Memorable Scene: Eddie and Buck rescue a skydiving instructor (9-1-1)

I'm a fan of the big emergencies on 9-1-1 but I also really love a lot of the smaller ones as well such as this one from the episode Seize the Day (season 3 episode 11). Buck and Eddie were on top of a moving fire engine to resue a skydiving instructor who had gotten knocked out and was suspended in air by his parachut. They had get this rescue just right especially since the pilot needed to land the plane.

I also love the scene at the end when the mom ask if Eddie and Buck were single. My thing is why did they did they look at each other? They should know if they're single or not. Especially since at this point they were both single and not to mention they didn't even answer her question. It just makes it seem like they had a secret that they didn't want to share just yet.

On My List: The Residence

There are so many shows On My List that I want to watch which includes The Residence. It's a mystery dramedy that centers on a murder at the White House. I can't wait to see the mystery unfold and play out while trying to figure out who is the murderer. And since it's set in the White House is the murder politically motivated? Or is it perhaps personal?

As soon as I finish watching The Z-Suite (which I'm so loving) and I will start watching The Residence.

The Residence (Netflix)

Starring: Uzo Aduba, Giancarlo Esposito, Randall Park, Molly Griggs, Susan Kelechi Watson, Ken Marino, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Jason Lee, Al Mitchell and more

Creator: Paul William Davies

Based On: The book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower

Description:

132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous state dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world's most famous mansion. Amid all the twists and turns, detective Cordelia Cupp partners with skeptical FBI special agent Edwin Park to untangle an intriguing murder mystery.

Art of the Day: Hera Syndulla

Artwork: Hera Syndulla by Ella (cherriielle)

It's been a while since I've watched Star Wars Rebels but Hera is such an awesome character (and so is this artwork). The live action version in the Ahsoka TV series wasn't bad. She was just missing a little of that spark that the animated version had.

As a way to support artists, I try to post links to their stores if they have one. You can purchase various fandom artwork and more from the artist's account cherriielle.

Most Memorable Scene: Eddie teasing Chimney about a cursed bracelet (9-1-1)

The 9-1-1 episode Cursed (season 6 episode 7) may not be one of my favorite episodes and that's mainly because a guest star took up most of the screen time. However, I did love seeing how superstitious Howard "Chimney" Han was of a supposedly cursed bracelet and how Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz was making fun of him. Eddie is just not a believer of curses, jinxes, superstitions, etc. but surprisingly he does occasionally believes in signs.

Chimney's fear of the cursed bracelet was reaching new heights and even Henrietta "Hen" Wilson was starting to get a little nervous about the bracelet. Which is why I love this scene when Eddie tossed the bracelet at Chimney. It was just so funny how Chimney made sure not to catch it. Because no matter what, Chimney was not touching that bracelet.

I love Eddie and Chimney's friendship, with one being a skeptic and the other a believer, these interesting qualities balance each other out. And also make for funny scenes.

Currently Reading: Aru Shah and the End of Time

Happy Wednesday!

For the past few days, I have been dealing with a classic Book Nerd Problem of trying to find something to read. I had been looking through my books, and even finding some I forgot I had. While looking at my books, I found a lot that seemed interesting but just wasn't what I wanted to read at the moment. And then this morning, I finally found a book to read, Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi.

It's a middle grade mythology fantasy that follows Aru Shah as she accidentally set free a demon and will now have to find a way to stop it. I've had this book sitting on my bookcase for a few years and I'm just now getting around to read it.

Book: Aru Shah and the End of Time (Pandava book #1) by Roshani Chokshi

Description:

Twelve-year-old Aru Shah has a tendency to stretch the truth in order to fit in at school. While her classmates are jetting off to family vacations in exotic locales, she'll be spending her autumn break at home, in the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture, waiting for her mom to return from her latest archeological trip. Is it any wonder that Aru makes up stories about being royalty, traveling to Paris, and having a chauffeur?

One day, three schoolmates show up at Aru's doorstep to catch her in a lie. They don't believe her claim that the museum's Lamp of Bharata is cursed, and they dare Aru to prove it. Just a quick light, Aru thinks. Then she can get herself out of this mess and never ever fib again.

But lighting the lamp has dire consequences. She unwittingly frees the Sleeper, an ancient demon whose duty it is to awaken the God of Destruction. Her classmates and beloved mother are frozen in time, and it's up to Aru to save them.

The only way to stop the demon is to find the reincarnations of the five legendary Pandava brothers, protagonists of the Hindu epic poem, the Mahabharata, and journey through the Kingdom of Death. But how is one girl in Spider-Man pajamas supposed to do all that?
