Book Review: The Lost Hero

Book: The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus Book #1) by Rick Riordan

Description:

Jason has a problem. He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god.

My Review:

This book was awesome. I really enjoyed reading this. This action packed story focused on three demigods: Jason, Piper and Leo. The story starts off with Jason who has no idea who he is and where he is, when he wakes up on school bus heading to a field trip. He is seated by two other kids (Piper and Leo) who seem to know him but nothing feels right to him. But there is something different about Jason and it's that difference that will be the catalyst to the whole series. However, before he can even understand what's happening to him during the field trip they were attacked.

I thought The Lost Hero was very well written and fast paced. I have said this before but Mr. Riordan has a way of creating these stories and characters that are interesting and leaving you wanting more. Plus, I love how the author blends mythology with modern times and even if I wasn't a fan of Greek mythology his writing would have me interested in learning more.

As with the other books, there seem to be a few grammatical errors. There were words missing and extra words but nothing that would take away from the story. I would recommend this book because this is a fantastic read. I can't wait to read the second book.
