Book Review: Red Velvet Cupcake Murder

Book: Red Velvet Cupcake Murder (Hannah Swensen book #16) by Joanne Fluke

Rating: 3 stars

Review:

I enjoyed reading this despite the fact that I figured out who the murderer was pretty early on. And it was also a bit obvious where Hannah's mother Delores and Doctor Knight's relationship was heading.

In my review for Cinnamon Roll Murder, I mentioned that the author didn't bring up what happened to the investigation of the death of the bus driver for the music group. Well, it was included in this story as part of subplot. The police had classified his death as a suicide but not believing that Hannah tried to figure out how she could find out the real reason for the driver's death.

The main mystery focused on who had attacked Barbara Donnelly in the penthouse while at the opening day for a renovated hotel. While, Hannah was attempting to figure that out, she had to deal with being accused of murdering her least favorite person Doctor Beverly. With two mysteries on her plate, Hannah was quite busy.

As I mention earlier I enjoyed this book, however it just kind of felt flat and a little predictable. The mystery was good, but it was too easy to figure out. As with each book, Hannah continues to date both Norman and Mike. I still wish the author would take a risk and let Hannah actually be in a relationship with one of them or have her date someone completely different.

I hope with the next book the author tries something a little different to shake up the series because this book wasn't as good as the others.
