Book: Heidi (Heidi book #1) by Johanna Spyri
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
Heidi was such a charming story. I can see why it's still a beloved classic.
The story began with Heidi being dropped off at her grandfather's house up in the Alm, by her selfish aunt Dete. Despite the gruff and grim reputation of the grandfather, he took good care of Heidi. Feel so content with love, Heidi quickly feel in love with the mountains and all the surroundings and she simply adored her grandfather.
After meeting Peter the goat herder and his mother and grandmother, Heidi instantly captured their hearts. They had quickly become like family to her, especially the grandmother.
As Heidi was enjoying time up on the Alm, her aunt showed up and promptly took the little girl away to Frankfurt after giving the impression that she could return to grandfather whenever she wanted to. Heidi was to be a live in companion to Klara Sesemann, a sick and invalid girl.
Although Heidi enjoyed spending her time with Klara and Klara's grandmother when the lady visited, she had difficulties with Fräulein Rottenmeier as well as dealing with homesickness. Her homesickness was so bad the only thing that would help her was for the little girl to go back home. Once she returned back home, Heidi was back in good spirits.
I was glad Heidi went back home because she was wasting away trying to hide how much she wanted to go home all because that mean Fräulein Rottenmeier told her she was an ungrateful child for wanting to go home.
I also glad things worked out for her once she got back and that she was able to keep in touch with the new friends she's made.
This was a really sweet story and I'm very interested in trying to find the other two books in the series to read.
