Review:

This first volume gives you five outstanding stories that shows you the gritty and mean side of Gotham's East End.

The first story "Selina's Big Score" follows Selina Kyle returning to Gotham after Catwoman and Selina Kyle were both reported dead. She was in need of some money and wanted to pull off a heist to acquire it. With some help from a few friends and associates, they planned on robbing a train. However, once she got her plan in place things turned deadly real fast but she got a little help from Private Investigator Slam Bradley who had been hired by the Gotham Mayor to look into the death of Catwoman.

The second story "Trail of the Catwoman" focused on Slam Bradley investigating the death of Catwoman which surprisingly lead him to the death of socialite Selina Kyle. But Bradley wasn't the only one interested in that information. The mob was as well. This story coincide with the first story.

The third story "Anodyne" has Selina deciding to put back on the costume but a newer costume. Up until that point she had felt like something was missing in her life and after talking with Dr. Leslie Thompkins she sort of knew what.

But even with the new suit Selina was still feeling like she should be doing something. But it wasn't until Holly Robinson showed up to Selina's apartment looking for a safe place stay that she found a new purpose. Holly had told Selina that young women were being murdered in the East End but since they were prostitutes the police weren't in any rush to try to find the murderer. Which meant it was going to be up to Catwoman to stop whoever was responsible.

In the fourth story "Trickle Down Theory", Catwoman is trying put a stop to drug traffickers using kids to smuggle in their drugs. She tracks down one low level dealer to see if he will lead her to whomever is controlling the whole operation.

The last story "Disguises", had Holly getting caught in the middle of a bunch of crooked cops taking out drug dealers to take over their turf. Holly as the eyes and ears for Selina was trying to find out information on one of the latest drug dealers in the area. However, he turned out to be an undercover cop and when she witnessed something she shouldn't have that had the dirty cops after her.

But thanks to Selina, Holly was able to escape but not without getting injured as well as having the cops put the blame on her. It took Catwoman and Slam to work out a plan to help get Holly's named cleared and to try to take down the dirty cops.

This was really good. Some stories I've seen try to brush aside Selina's not so lovely past. But she didn't have a good life, she grew up on the Gotham streets and had to do things she didn't want to do but it ensured she would see the next day.

Selina is one of the best burglars around but she's not exactly a criminal per se because she usually takes from the crooks but she is a criminal.

Besides these good stories, I loved the appearance of Bruce Wayne and Batman. I like that his appearances were limited so the focus stays on Catwoman.

This is the Catwoman that I've enjoyed reading about over the years prior to the reboot. She was smart and calculating yet loyal to her friends. She wants to protect the East End because as she sees it no one else but her can. Batman may be Gotham's protector but the East End belongs to Selina.

I like this so much I'm definitely going to be buying this sometime real soon.
