Book Review for Library Read-a-thon book #5: Heat Wave

Book: Heat Wave (Nikki Heat book #1) by Richard Castle

Source: Library

Rating: 4 1/2 stars

Review:

Reading this was like watching an episode of Castle. However, you don't have to be a fan of the show to enjoy reading this.

In this first book of the series, readers are introduced to Detective Nikki Heat as she deals with not only trying to find out who killed Matthew Starr, a real estate magnet as well as dealing with a growing attraction between writer Jameson Rook who has been shadowing her and her squad for an upcoming article.

As Detectives Heat, Ochoa, Raley and Rook dug deeper into the murder they uncovered more than just the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Matthew Starr's life wasn't all that it was shown to be, including his wife Kimberly Starr.

The mystery becomes even more stressful when Detective Heat is targeted by one of the suspects having to show the suspect she was anything but an easy victim.

This was a great intro to the series and great read for fans because you can see some of the things from the show that made it into the story.

I love how all the characters are written, the personalities fit the characters, especially since Richard Castle has been hanging around Detectives Kate Beckett, Javier Esposito, Kevin Ryan and Medical Examiner Lanie Parish and their personalities mirror their book counterparts perfectly. The story did a great job showing the camaraderie between all the officers. And there is no denying the chemistry between Nikki Heat and Jamison Rook, you could see the connection yet it was believable.

This fast paced mystery is one of those perfect summer reads because it captures your attention and makes you want to know who's behind everything and there's a steamy romance included.
