Book Review: The Heist

Book: The Heist (Fox and O'Hare book #1) by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

I really must thank my friend for suggesting I read the first book because it was a much better read compared to the third book The Job which seemed if the writers had become lazy with writing both the story and the characters.

In The Heist, the reader is introduced to FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare who has spent several years trying to apprehend International con man Nicholas "Nick" Fox. And she finally did after he attempted to steal a priceless jewel from a museum. However, Nick had no plans of going to prison and escaped from the bathroom of the court house.

Although Kate was not assigned to the recapture of Nick Fox, she figured she was only one who could track him down. Which she did, she found him on a remote island but once she discovered him, it turned out his escaped was not what it seemed. He was now going to be working for the FBI, helping them bring down crooks they couldn't legally get to and Kate was now going to be his handler.

They had their first assignment to go after crooked businessman Derek Griffin who had embezzled over a billion dollars from his investors and went into hiding. But to get to him they had to first con his lawyer Neal Burnside. To get this con on the way, Nick and Kate wrangled in their A-Team: Wilma "Willie" Owens - the driver/pilot, Chet Kershaw - special effects, Tom Underhill - the builder and Boyd Capwell - the actor.

This was a thrilling action packed and rather humorous story that had this unorthodox crew conning some really bad men. I like the chemistry with the crew and also Kate's interaction with her father Jake O'Hare the former military man who doesn't seem to be in any hurry to enjoying being retired. I don't know what happened with the third book but this was a fun read and it really has me interested in reading the second book.
