Book Review: Gronk vol #1

Book: Gronk volume #1: A Monster's Story written and illustrated by Katie Cook with color by Kevin Minor

Source: Borrowed from Publisher/NetGalley for an honest review

Publication: March 24, 2015

Description:

Gronk is a monster... and not a very good one.

Gronk tells the tale of a young monster who has turned her back on monsterdom (mostly because no one found her scary) and has become fascinated with humans.

She moves in with her human friend Dale and her pets Kitty and Harli, a 160 lb. Newfoundland that Dale wants to declare as a dependent to the IRS.

Enjoy the first installment from this popular kids webcomic in a wonderful, full-color collection!

Review:

This was a cute story that follows Gronk, a monster who doesn't quite fit in with the other monsters in the forest. She doesn't enjoy being scary or trying to scare others and she gets teased and made fun of very often. She also carries a stuffed kitten but after it was damaged she decides to leave the forest.

Once she left she ended up finding a cat which belongs to Dale a sort of creative loner who works from home. Dale decides that the best thing for Gronk to do is come back home with her since going back to the forest would not be a good idea.

At Dale's house, Gronk met Harli, Dale's huge dog. From there the story shows Gronk getting acquainted to living with Dale, Harli and the cat. Since, Dale's house is quite isolated it makes it easy for Gronk to enjoy being outside and not to mention being seen by others who might be afraid of her.

Gronk has to be one of the cutest most adorable comics I've seen in a long time. It's also really funny. Dale is a geek and you can see that through her t-shirts, movies and things that she enjoys. Aside from being funny, this shows children how to be more kind and considerate to others without being preachy.

Yeah, this might be a children's comic but it's definitely for all ages.
