Book Review: Adventures of Superman #1

Book: Adventures of Superman #1 by various authors and artists

Edition: print issue

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

There are three stories in this first issue and each author seems to understand and grasp what's so amazing about Superman. Anyone missing the pre-New 52 Superman, well the Adventures of Superman series (now canceled) is a great way to enjoy a fun group of stories that showcase the awesomeness that is the Man of Steel.

1st story: Violent Minds by Jeff Parker with illustrations by Chris Samnee and color by Matthew Wilson

In this story, Superman was trying to not only stop a guy who was terrorizing the city but also help him because he was unwittingly given a drug that gave him powers that he was unable to control. Although Superman was unaware of who was behind this incident, the reader found out who it was.

2nd story: Fortress written and illustrated by Jeff Lemire with color by Jose Villarrubia

This story focused on two boys where one was pretending to be Superman while the other was one of his numerous villains. This was a cute issue because although they were playing they still understood who Superman was.

3rd story: Bizzaro's Worst Day by Justin Jordan with illustrations by Riley Rossmo

Bizzaro was at his finest causing trouble while trying to help. Superman came up with an ingenious plan for Bizzaro to help but also keep him out of trouble. This was a short but funny story.

I thought this first issue was a fun read because you get to see Superman at his best helping others as well as seeing what makes him so special. I will be posting the rest of my reviews for this series soon.
