Melinda Morgan commits to running her favorite neighborhood bakery when the owner, who’s like a second dad to her, falls ill. Then she finds out his adventurous son, Nate Carter, is back in town. Nate was Melinda’s first kiss and greatest heartbreak all rolled into one, yet he’s still as charming as ever.

When Melinda learns Nate’s dad is selling his bakery, she realizes her dream to own the bakery herself. But in order to access her inheritance funds, she must first complete her father’s Carpe Diem list, which challenges her to take risks she normally wouldn’t—like only dating someone who leaves her breathless.

Nate wants a second chance with her and she finds him nearly impossible to resist. Could he be the key to completing her dad’s list and saving the bakery? And can he help her do both without breaking her heart all over again?

Review:

This was a fun easy breezy read, it's like the equivalent of a Hallmark channel movie. 27 years old Melinda Morgan went from having her own apartment and a full time job in customer service to then being laid off forcing her to have to move into apartment to share with a roommate (and her roommate's cats) and taking temping jobs (whenever she can get them).

One day when she was going to visit her mother (in hopes of getting some of her inheritance because her funds were dwindling fast), she stopped by one of her favorite places in her old neighborhood, Bernie's Bakery. Which is where she found out that the owner Bernie, who's a family friend, was planning on selling the bakery since his health was in question. She also found out that his son Nate was back in town. Nate had not only been her best friend but also her secret crush back when they were younger.

Dealing with both Bernie selling his beloved business and Nate's return wasn't the only things she was dealing with. But when the idea to buy the bakery occurred to her, Melinda was finally ready to use the money that had been left from her when her father died. However, her mother added a new problem for her to worry about, Melinda found out that her mother just now recently read a letter that Melinda's late father had left for her. And inside the letter for her mother had been an unopened letter for Melinda which included a Carpe Diem list. The list included four things that her father thought she needed to accomplish before she could acquire the money.

So in between trying to complete the list and trying figure out how to buy the bakery, Melinda was also trying stop her feelings for Nate. He was just as handsome and charming as before but even more so. But is his adventurous risk-taking nature too much for her to deal with?

This is a story about Carpe Diem, to "seize the day" and not let fear or anything else hold you back. It was a good read and there was only one little problem I had with it, the over use of Nate's eyes being called jade-green.
