Review:

A fun and mysterious read, this first volume features two stories. The first story shows Crystal being introduced to the world of the strange and supernatural (issues #1-4) while the second story finds the Dead Boy Detectives and Crystal trying to help a couple of ghosts who truly need their help. These stories were filled with drama, humor and mystery. They were quirky, interesting, funny and oh so British.

Ghost boy detectives Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine found themselves in the middles of a new mystery when they spotted an art event. As they floated down to attend what is to be the latest artistic stunt by artist Maddy Surname and her musician husband Seth von Hoverkraft and their not so happy to be there daughter Crystal Palace, they noticed something that didn't seem to be part of the plan.

Crooks in a high powered helicopter were trying to steal a priceless piece of art but not only that, they threw a grenade that would have killed Crystal. If not for Charles and Edwin pushing her out of the way. Crystal still was injured but there was no time to stop, the boys quickly pursued the robbers and saved the painting.

However, that was just the beginning of this story, by helping Crystal they accidentally allowed her to stumble into their world. When she finally woke up in the hospital she had a new plan for her life, tired of the non-structured world her parents lived in, Crystal decided to go to school. But she had an ulterior motive for going there, once and for all she was going to prove that there are indeed ghosts. And she knew exactly where to go to, Saint Hilarion's...Charles and Edwin's former school.

But this was no regular boarding school, besides both Charles and Edwin dying there, strange and mysterious things seem to be happening there. Wanting to make sure nothing bad happened to Crystal, the boys had no choice but to return.

Once at the school there were creepy things going on but that was not going to stop Crystal from trying investigate especially when something really strange started to happen to one of her new friends. The boys do there best to help but when they are pursued by those who want them out of the way it makes things very difficult.

In the second story, following the incidents that happened at the school, Crystal was now back at home and was joined by Charles and Edwin. While the trio were getting used to their old/new accommodations, Edwin stumbled upon a new mystery. Two ghosts, Penelope and Beatrix who really needed help. Their situation was very unusual and was going to need all of their help and then some to complete the task.

I love finding a new favorite read, this was great and I love the artwork. Sad to say, but this is yet another good series that was cancelled. Volume #2 features the last six issues.
