Review:

This was a delightful little story that had three middle school students not only becoming friends but finding themselves in the middle of a mystery.

When Kelsey, who's normally shy and quiet, spotted a runaway zorse (it's a special animal that's a combination of a zebra and a horse), she tried to help catch it. The zorse was being cared for by Becca, who's very popular at school and whose family runs a animal rescue shelter. Becca had been taking the animal to the vet when he got away from her. After Kelsey's daring rescue (she calmed Zed the zorse with some cookies) the two girls and Zed were on the way to the vet when Kelsey heard the faint mewing of kittens. The sound was coming from a dumpster, but they were unable to open it.

They got some help from Leo, a boy who is known as being a little strange and a geek at school. Once the dumpster was opened, they were able to save the kittens who had been in a bag. The kittens weren't the only thing they discovered, they spotted their first clue to locating who could be responsible for dumping the kittens.

The unlikely trio wound up forming a secret club to not only take care of the kittens but to also find out who abandon them in the dumpster. The more they got into the investigation they started to find out clues that had them realizing that there was more going on than they originally thought.

But can three very different kids who are each dealing with their own personal drama manage to stay friends let alone solve this mystery?

This was a fast moving story that interested me so much that I read it in one day, the characters were interesting and so was the mystery. I like how each kid used their own skill to contribute to solving the mystery. Although the story was told from Kelsey's point of view you still learn a lot about Leo and Becca.

I really like this and I'm not even the target audience for this which is middle grade readers. I enjoyed it so I'm hoping they will too.

I look forward to reading more from this series.
