Review:

What are you willing to do to get away from an oppressive environment? That's the question that faced two brothers. When Pasang and Tenzin plan to leave Tibet to embark on a journey to India they faced many trials but in the back of their minds all they could think about was trying to make it to India where they would be free to get an education to better their lives. With Tibet gradually losing all of its cultural significance and identity due to the country being taken over by China, Pasang thought it was him and his brother's only chance to get away.

But it was hard for 11 years old Tenzin who was extremely homesick and missed his mother and his other two brothers who were still back in Tibet. However, taking the risk to leave Tibet was what his mother and older brother Pasang thought was for his own good.

Escape from Tibet was told from Tenzin's point of view and since this is a children/middle grade nonfiction book it is written in a way that is easy to follow along yet still very engaging.

The book shows the brothers faced a lot of hardships on their way to India with them doing their best to survive the ordeal. They were also dealing with a real possibility that they could be captured and return back to Tibet where they most likely would be thrown into prison for trying to escape.

This is an interesting read that will detail for young readers the plight of many of the Tibetan people.
