Book Review: Hardy Boys: Murder by Magic

Book: Murder by Magic (The Hardy Boys Casefiles #98) by Franklin W. Dixon

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

It didn't take me long to read this book. I actually finished it earlier today but before I could write up my review, I went with a friend to an art fair.

This story was set in the 90s and was full of action, drama and suspense as the Hardy brothers try to figure out who murdered a popular magician's assistant.

When Frank and his younger brother Joe were not attending high school they were both volunteering as stagehands for Legerdemania which is a special event where some of the greatest magicians perform. When Gideon the Great was preforming his final act in which his assistant Miranda attempts to escape from a locked box while in a shark tank. But something goes wrong leaving Miranda dead. Was it an accident? Well, not according to the police who found evidence leading to murder and their no. #1 suspect is Gideon the Great.

The brothers were asked by Gideon's brother Dr. Savant, a hypnotist at the event, to find out what really happened. The more the brothers snooped around the more information they kept finding lead back to Gideon. But Joe and Frank weren't giving up especially since there were too many things happening off stage including two attempts on their lives.

As an introduction into the world of the Hardy Boys this was a pretty good read. It was well-written and fast-paced as it showed the brothers using their detective skills to solve a difficult mystery. I like that they also got a little help from their friends in solving this case.
