Book Review: Happy Cafe volume 1 (Manga)

Book: Happy Café volume #1 by Kou Matsuzuki

Rating: 3 1/2 stars

Review:

I thought Happy Cafe volume 1, was cute. This five chapter book focuses on 16 year old Takamura Uru, who thinking she's in the way of her mom and her mom's new husband decides to move out and get her own place.

She ends up getting a job at Café Bohneur (or Happy Cafe) and meeting strange employees and possibly new friends Ichirou (who instantly falls asleep if hungry) and Shindou (who is never without a frown on his face). Things don't go so well for Uru at the cafe her first couple of days because she keeps breaking things or dropping them.

Throughout the book, you can tell that Ichirou and Shindou (although not having the best social skills) are going to be really good friends to Uru. I thought it was funny that Uru who is short for her age is always mistaken for a little kid.

I'm glad that Uru's reason for moving out turned out to be a misunderstanding (in Uru's mind), her parents never wanted her to leave but she still wants to continue living on her own now for a much better reason.

I really enjoyed this book and plan on reading the second volume.
