Book Review: Case Closed Vol. #3

Book: Case Closed Volume #3 by Gosho Aoyama (chapters 20-29)

Rating: 5 stars (This was great)

My Review:

I wanted to read something different from yesterday's romance novel so out of my selected books I picked Case Closed for my 2nd day read. I love reading this series because it has very good mysteries, a lot of humor and interesting characters. As a mystery lover, this series is one of my favorite and the third volume didn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I can't wait to read the next volume.

Chapters 20 - 25 had Conan, Ran and Ran's father Detective Kogoro Mouri (who is a horrible detective) on a chartered luxury cruise ship of the Hatamoto Family after Detective Mouri goofed up their return travel plans. Thanks to the hospitality of the Hatamoto family they were able to ride back to Tokyo with them.

The trip instantly turned deadly when the head of the Hatamoto family was found murdered in a locked room. All motives pointed to Takeshi, the new husband of Natsue Hatamoto (the favorite granddaughter of the deceased man) but Conan wasn't so sure after he found a clue. Takeshi was instantly detained by the detective and locked in the storage room until they reach Tokyo.

The family had all started to cast their suspension on Takeshi after his secret was found out. However, despite Takeshi being locked up, the family started to turn on each and other motives were being disclosed. But after a second murder victim was found on the deck and a third incident happened, Takeshi was the prime suspect especially after he somehow escaped from the locked storage room.

I like this story because it reminded me of one of those old mystery movies. The story was exciting because almost every family member had a motive for all three incidents. If it wasn't for Conan, the criminal would never get caught if the case was up to Detective Mouri to be solved.

------

Chapters 26 - 29 had the trio focusing on a case that featured mysterious gifts being sent to a doctor and his son. For the past two years the doctors has been sent money and toys. He was also sent flowers for the past years on August 3rd. The doctor wanted to know the name of the person sending the gifts and hired detective Mouri for the job. The only clues the gang had to go on was a letter and package addressing (which the doctor stated the return name and address were fake)

This story also had Ran becoming suspicious of Conan, she was starting to wonder if he was some how her friend Shin'ichi Kudo. So besides trying to figure out the mystery, Conan now has to deflect Ran's suspicions.

As mystery solving progressed, the gang realized those gifts were more than just thank you gifts. There was something more going on and if they didn't figure it out it might be too late.
