Rating: 4 stars

Review:

I read the single issues instead of the trade edition.

I have read a lot of books from the new 52 and with each reading I go in with a positive mindset. Quite a lot have turned out to be really bad but when you end up finding something really good it almost makes up for reading those really awful ones. Almost.

And these issues of Green Lantern: New Guardians turned out to be pretty good. This began with recently unemployed artist/illustrator Kyle Rayner being chosen by Ganthet, one of the Guardians of the Universe, as a Green Lantern. A few years later, after Rayner was in NY city trying to stop a large piece of construction equipment from falling, six rings (red, blue, indigo, pink, orange and yellow) from other lantern corps showed up surrounding him. And unfortunately, so did four other members of various corps (Red Lantern Bleez, Star Sapphire Fatality, Yellow Lantern Arkillo and Indigo Lantern Munk) show up trying to retrieve those rings. They accused him of stealing the rings and not willing to listen to Rayner's innocence, they all went on the attack.

Not wanting to fight in the middle of the city, GL tried to get the others to follow him but that didn't work out so well. Leaving GL to have to try to stop them before he could take the fight elsewhere and with a little power charge assistance from Blue Lantern Saint Walker he was able to get away and go to Oa for answers about the rings.

Once, GL got there he found the Guardians had changed including his mentor Ganthet. Things got even worse when the other Lanterns showed up as well as Orange Lantern Larfleeze made his presence known. Which is never a good thing.

After getting away from the Guardians, the lanterns minus Bleez went with Larfleeze because he said he knew who was responsible for the rings leaving their corps wearer. With the information, the group with new member Orange Lantern construct Glomulus (and without Larfleeze) headed out to a huge space ship, The Orrery. As they separated to explore the ship they eventually had to regroup to defend themselves against Invictus, the guardian of the ship. Bleez also rejoins the group at an untimely moment but it sort of worked in GL favor in trying to reason with Invictus. However, this ended on a cliffhanger with GL being asked by Invictus to take out Larfleeze.

This was very well written and action packed interesting story. I thought the writer did a great job with each character, they each had a personality as well as being interesting. These issues were fun and kept my attention until the end. I also thought the artwork was really good and it was bright and colorful. I'm really glad read this, it brought some of the fun back to the new 52.
