Book of Interest: Star Wars: Legacy

I think Rey Palpatine could have become a really interesting character but the Disney Star Wars Sequel movies didn't really give her a chance to be that. Yes, she's the hero but where was her compelling story. Her story mostly felt like a rehash of Anakin and Luke Skywalkers' stories making her a rather boring character with no real story of her own. It's as if they were playing it safe and didn't quite know what to do with her. Maybe this new movie (if it actually happens) that she will appear in will actually make improvements to her character. And hopefully this book Star Wars: Legacy by Madeleine Roux will also do a better job with her character than the sequel movies did.

The description for Legacy actually seems interesting with General Leia Organa and Rey finding an old Jedi temple. And what they may find inside, might help with Rey's Jedi training but the temple apparently hold some sort of great mystery they will need to unravel. I will be adding this to my list.

Currently Reading: The Time Travelers

After reading a mystery book, I was looking for something different to read and I found The Time Travelers by Linda Buckley-Archer. It's a middle grade sci-fi fantasy book that follows as two kids get sent back in time and it looks like they will be working with a thief to stop a villain. That seems interesting, I guess I'll see how the story unfolds.

Book of Interest: The People's Library

This sci-fi book, The People's Library by Veronica G. Henry seems very interesting. With the way the world continues to be digitized, it's not hard to imagine human consciousness being as well. And a anti-tech rebellion is also something that's not hard to imagine, especially since there is already a growing anti-AI sentiment. And couple that with the librarian, Echo London uncovering secrets about the library, I so want to read this book. Because what does she find out and is it connected with the anti-tech rebellion?

Happy Saturday! How's everyone's weekend going so far?

I was trying to find something different to read, and from searching through my new books to my old ones, I just couldn't figure out what to read next. However, I did end up finding Congo by Michael Crichton, I bought this book from a thrift store back in 2014. I bought so many books over the years from bookstores, thrift stores and library book sales that sometimes I forget what I have until I'm searching through my books.

Anyway, I'm really interested in reading this. From the description, there's a lot going on and despite several mysterious deaths, that doesn't seem to stop the curiosity in trying to find a lost city.

On My List: October 20th

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. It's been a while since I've posted an On My List and I have so many things that I want to post. But here is just a small list of what I want to read and watch.

Book on my TBR (To Be Read) List that I Want to Read Soon:

I'm slowly but surely making my way through my TBR List but there are just so many books on it. And one that I plan to read soon is The Paleontologist by Luke Dumas. The description immediately drew me in because it's a supernatural/sci-fi mystery with the possibility that a dinosaur or the ghost of one is behind the mystery. Or is it something much more human? It seems like an interesting story and one that I can't wait to read.

I was searching for Princess Leia books when I found Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis, I'm really surprised I don't have this book. It seems like a really interesting story with Princess Leia and Han Solo's honeymoon putting them back in the line of danger as the last remnants of the Empire are trying to regain power. With this being Leia and Han's honeymoon, they were probably looking to relax and enjoy their time together but knowing them they're going to continue the fight. But I wonder how they are going to manage it? Are they going to call in help or try to figure it out themselves first, then call in for help. I guess I'll see once I read this.

Currently Reading for Star Wars Book Club: Star Wars: Scoundrels

I'm just going to start by saying reader's block really sucks. It has caused me to not finish two very interesting books back-to-back but I'm going to keep going with another book, Star Wars: Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn. I've been wanting to read this book for a quite a while. And it's been sitting on my shelf for too long. It's a story that centers on Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian trying to pull of the ultimate heist. Sounds like a fun read.

So, I'm going to wish myself good luck in starting and finishing this book because I'm so tired of the reader's block.

Book of Interest: Daughter of the Deep

A few years ago, I read the classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. It was an interesting read perhaps not my favorite but interesting nonetheless. When I heard about a new take on the story, Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan, I was interested in reading this. I do wonder what elements of the story the author keep or was inspired by.

Book of Interest: Out of Body

I was just recommended this recently published (as in yesterday) book, Out of Body by Nia Davenport. And after reading the description, I have to read it. An out of body experience coupled with an chilling mystery. Yeah, I don't need any more new books especially since I'm still reading through my ever growing To Be Read list. But this seems really interesting and besides once I buy it, it will count as being part of my TBR list. Yes, I know, I'm trying to justify buying more books.

Since, I'm still trying to read through my To Be Read list, I wasn't sure what to read next. While going through one of my bookcases I spotted The Fever Code by James Dashner. This is not only the final book in The Maze Runner series but also the second prequel. I really enjoyed reading the first prequel The Kill Order (which is also the fourth book in the series).

The Fever Code is supposed to answer the question of why the the maze was built? It's been a while since I've finished a book series, I can't wait to start reading this.

Currently Reading for Tackle Your TBR Read-a-Thon book #5: Star Wars: Fatal Alliance

After I finally finished reading and reviewing Ways to Make Sunshine by Renée Watson, I feel like I'm finally over my reader's block/slump. And I'm ready to get back to reading and continue my TBR Read-a-Thon, I still need to finish reading Nancy Drew: The Haunted Showboat by Carolyn Keene (it's the third book in the TBR Read-a-Thon).

With that said, the next book I'll be reading is Star Wars: Fatal Alliance by Sean Williams. I've really enjoyed reading these Star Wars Legend stories, I've only read seven so far but each one has been very good. And here's hoping Fatal Alliance will also be a good read.

Although this wasn't exactly my best reading year, I do want to close out 2022 with one more review. What are you reading this weekend? It's been a while since I posted a Weekend Reading post but I'm reading Star Wars: Red Harvest by Joe Schreiber. I started reading it this morning and so far it's off to a really interesting start. Since, it's a slightly chilly yet sunny day, I was planning on going to a café, order a hot tea and maybe a little something to eat and read for a little bit.

Book Club Picks for September: Supernatural: Nevermore, Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows and Star Wars: Red Harvest

It’s September 1st! I know…how in the world is it already September?! Time really is going by so fast which is why I wanted to bring back my book clubs: The Book Girl's Book Club, Comic Book Club and Star Wars Book Club. After taking a rather long break, I think it's time for book club to return.

For The Book Girl's Book Club we will be reading Supernatural: Nevermore by Keith R.A. DeCandido. Supernatural was a pretty good TV series and it wasn't until a few years ago that I found out the show had books. I figure it would be interesting to read the first book for book club.

As for the Comic Book Club, I thought we could read The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows by Dan Slott, Adam Kubert and Scott Hanna. It had been on my list of books I want to read for a while, it centers on an alternate universe Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson and their daughter.

For the Star Wars Book Club and we will be reading Star Wars: Red Harvest by Joe Schreiber. The description makes me wish I'd waited until October to bring back book club this since it has zombies. But since we're reading through the Old Republic books this was the next one in the line up. You know what horror isn't just for October and Halloween, it's all year round.

Anyway, I know it's been a while which is why I can't wait to start reading these picks (well as soon as I finish Caribbean Cruising by Rachel Hawthorne). As always, if there's a book you think we should read for book club let me know.

What's the First Book You're Reading for the New Year?

Happy New Year! My plan is to start this new year by reading more and the first book I'm starting with is The Kill Order by James Dashner. It's the first prequel of The Maze Runner series, I had planned to read it last year but throughout most of the year I was dealing with ongoing reader's block. Thankfully, I am not dealing with that issue and I'm just looking forward to reading this today.
