Read-a-thon book 2 review: State of the Onion

Book: State of the Onion (A White House Chef Mystery book #1) by Julie Hyzy

Source: Library

Rating: 2 stars

Review:

State of the Onion was not as good as I thought it would be. It wasn't bad just slow moving and a little boring. The novel was not much of a page turner. The story centered around assistant chef Olivia Paras who has somehow found herself trying to investigate who the mysterious intruder was on the White House grounds especially after he evaded trained Secret Service and she ended up stopping him. Only to find out he was trying to tell her something...a warning that the President may be in danger.

As she was finding herself more and more involved in the mystery (despite her boyfriend Tom, a Secret Service agent warning her to stay out of), Olivia was also dealing with who the White House was going to select to be the Executive Chef. It was between Olivia and well know TV chef Laurel Anne Braun.

The story was okay but I wish it was more suspenseful and entertaining. At the moment, I don't think I plan to continue with this series.
