Book Review: The Chocolate Lovers' Club

Review:

I thought this was going to be a light and fun read but it was a shallow piece of crap. Even the overly abundant descriptions of chocolate couldn't help this flailing book. None of the characters were really likeable and the story was really awful.

The story centers around four friends whose lives are a total mess. First is Lucy (the narrator) who is a real mess and constantly keeps taking back her cheating boyfriend while drowning her sorrows in lots and lots of chocolate. She has zero goals or career ambitions, she just coast through life. And she can't seem to keep a job.

The second is Nadia who is married and has a young child. She used to work in PR but her husband wanted her to stay at home to raise their son. But they are dealing with huge financial problems mainly due to her husband’s gambling problem and his refusal for her to go back to work.

The third is Autumn who is a hippie/green girl who despite being rather well off spends her time trying to help others. She works at a center that helps those dealing with drug problems. But her problem is her brother who abruptly moved in with her and brings all of his problems into her life.

The last is Chantal who lives a life of wealth and luxury but in her marriage her husband has a problem with intimacy which has her seeking affection from other men which is the cause of one of her problems. One of her hook ups rob her while she was sleeping.

I couldn’t stand reading this book, the characters were so superficial and annoying. The only character I sort of liked was Autumn but she was such a huge doormat. And it made it hard to like her when her brother was treating her bad.

The friendship between the characters is probably the best thing about this book. But it wasn’t enough to keep me reading it.
