Review:

I love when a book offers the reader something different and this does. Have you noticed that so many books geared towards young girls seem to forget that there is more than one or two types of girls. And April O'Day is wonderful with her love of baseball. She is a walking knowledge of baseball stats and information.

In The Secret at Haney Field, 12 years old April O'Day won the ultimate prize for a baseball fan. She was to be the ball retriever (or ball girl) for the local minor-league team the Harpoons. Things were going great until one night she thought she saw shadows moving on the field but that couldn't possibly happen. Even stranger it looked like they were playing baseball. But no way was that really happening. April tried to put it out of her mind, that is until the owner of the team Mr. Haney asked her a very interesting question. That's when she realized she wasn't the only one who could see the shadow players.

What was going on? That's exactly what April wanted to find out and along with her newly hired best friend as the visiting team bat retriever Darren Plummer the two started to look into the strange incidents at the ballpark. At first the two had a bit of difficulty trying to find information but after something strange happened following one of the games they now had a way to really see what was truly going on.

Turns out there's a connection with the ghost players and the owner Mr. Haney. And the mystery was something that April and Darren couldn't wait to figure out.

This was a very unique and interesting story because I love how it combined the past and the present with the supernatural to tell a very heartwarming, fun, historical mystery.
