Book Review for Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon book #3: Nancy Drew: The Crime Lab Case

Book: Nancy Drew: The Crime Lab Case (Nancy Drew book #165) by Carolyn Keene

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

Nancy Drew and her best friends Bess and George and her boyfriend Ned had a lot on their plates in this book. The four were assisting with a special mystery camp for high school students that was held at the college. The camp which was created by Professor Charles Parris was designed to help show students how science is used in various ways to help solve crimes. Also helping with the camp are experts in the scientific field including the Professor's niece Christy who is faculty in science at the university, Rosalia "Lia" Mistino a forensics geologist, Detective Hill Truban, and the Professor's research project director and assistant director of the camp, Connor Brandon.

However, two days before camp even started, the Professor while having a meeting with Nancy, passed out and had to be rushed to the hospital. After several tests, it turns out he had been poisoned and was currently in a very dire state. Not wanting to disappoint the students as well as it being too late to cancel everything, Christy asked Nancy if she could take over running the camp since her uncle wouldn't be able to.

Nancy's schedule was busy with running the camp but that didn't stop her from wanting to know who had poisoned the Professor. As Nancy began to investigate, she found out the Professor was being extorted for money and with problems constantly turning up at the camp she was starting to wonder if they were connected.

Who was behind it all? That's what Nancy and her friends are hoping to find out before it's too late.

The Crime Lab Case was a good story, it was fast paced and had a lot of interesting suspects and clues. I like that this wasn't an easy to solve case nor overly predictable. It gives the reading a chance to try to figure it out as the story goes along.

This is one of the first Nancy Drew books I read that was set during the 2000s, another book I read, Nancy Drew: Bad Medicine was set during the late 80s/early 90s. It's nice that it doesn't matter what time period Nancy Drew is in, she's the same no matter what.
