Book Review: Southern Cross #1

Southern Cross #1

Book: Southern Cross issue #1 by Becky Cloonan with illustrations by Andy Belanger and color by Lee Loughridge

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

I was pleasantly surprised by this sci-fi mystery, it follows Alex Braith who was traveling out to the refinery moon to pick up her sister Amber's remains. But she's mainly going there so she can find out how her sister really died especially since Amber worked in administration and not one of the dangerous mining jobs.

Once Alex boarded the ship, she found she had a cabin mate Erin McKenna who she later found out was investigating Amber's death.

This has a nice classic mystery movie/TV show feel to it because everything isn't in your face but instead is creating a nice build up. This first issue shows that there is more going on than just an "accidental" death and there may even be a more sinister meaning behind everything.

This was well-written and I really like the artwork, it goes perfectly with the story.

So far, I really like this and will be adding it to my pull list at the comic book store because I want to know what's going to happen next. Plus, that ship is really creepy that Alex is traveling on, can't wait to read the next issue.
