Book Review for Bout of Books Day 4: Peace, Love and Cupcakes

Book: Peace, Love and Cupcakes (The Cupcake Club #1) by Sheryle and Carrie Berk

Rating: 4 stars

My Review:

Yesterday, I didn't get a lot of reading in. So, this morning I was able to finish my 4th book for the read-a-thon. I thought this book was delightful and it also featured recipes at the end of the book.

Peace, Love and Cupcakes focused on Kylie Carson who was having a hard time at school all thanks to Meredith Mitchell the most popular girl in school who has been bullying Kylie since third grade.

Kylie self-esteem had taken a hit and problem would have continued until her new drama teacher Ms. Juliette Dubois talked Kylie into joining a baking club. Kylie was even given the position of Club President, the only thing she needed to was to find members.

Things didn't go too well at first but eventually she was able to find three other girls to join the club, Sadie, Jenna and Lexi. They were each on the lower end of the social system but I thought they were just what the club needed. Four unique girls with their interest. Lexi was an artist, Jenna was great with food and Sadie had tons of team spirit as well as an egg cracking specialist.

The first meeting didn't go so well, they ruined their first baking project but after that first trial run, they figured out what they needed to do and their second attempt at the following meeting went amazing. They baked cupcakes and figured out that was what they were best at and decided to change the baking club to a cupcake club called Peace, Love and Cupcakes.

Thing were going so well for the club, that they were starting to get baking orders not just from their fellow classmates but also from a local store and for several events. With things going so well, Kylie nearly forgot about Meredith's bully that is until she embarrassed Kylie at the School Winter Dance and tried to ruin the groups cupcake's business.

With a little encouragement from the other members of the group, Kylie and the girls were back to baking again including getting an order from Mrs. Mitchell, Meredith's mother. The girls were a little reluctant to take the order but with a little advice from Kylie mother the girls decided to accept the order. It was then that an idea came to Kylie, she could get her revenge on her bully.

Did Kylie seek her revenge? Maybe maybe not, I don't want to spoil the ending incase you decide to read this. I thought this book was wonderful and it showed the effects of bullying but also showed how these girls who perhaps might not be the most popular students, took matters into their own hands and changed their own lives and had fun along the way.

I plan on reading the second book of this series. I really enjoyed reading this, it was just a lovely little story.
