Book Review: A Will and A Way

Book: A Will and A Way by Nora Roberts

Rating: 3 stars

My Review:

This surprised me, it was better than I thought but there were still times it felt like a typical boring romance novel. Once the romance between the two cousins (yes, that was kind of weird to me, although they weren't related by blood they were still related) it started to feel a little too possessive to me.

Anyway, the book centered on the two cousins Michael and Pandora who inherited a large amount of money, stocks, etc. but the only way to receive it was they had to adhere to their late uncle's wishes to live in their uncle's home for six months. But the inheritance left the other family members quite upset in that they were basically getting less than they deserved.

Settling into the house, the two cousins who in the past didn't really get along decided to compromise and come up with some rules so they could work together to get through the six months at least on somewhat friendly terms.

Things were going okay until Pandora's work studio that was housed in the storage barn was vandalized. At first they thought it was just a teenage prank but something made them think other wise and had them deciding to investigate but after a few more incidents occurred such as bogus telegram (this book was published in 1986) stating Michael's mother was ill, a tainted bottle of champagne, and more; the two finally started to think someone was out to get them, possibly one of the family.

The mystery solving and romance both started to develop but once the animosity turned to romance then it started to feel a bit possessive with Michael trying too hard to keep Pandora safe. Once the incidents started to get more menacing, they finally decided to contact the police but even with the police notified that didn't stop the incidents especially when it nearly cost both cousins their lives.

Once the ending was starting to wrap up, it felt like it was too quick and a bit wacky. The unveiling of the villain felt like something straight out of the Scooby-Doo cartoon but I guess it worked. I did think this book was good just had a few clichéd romance points but this book is perfect for a summer read. It's easy to read and fast paced, the main characters are interesting and the extended family are just a little crazy, all perfect for a light read.
