Comic Book Wednesday: 15 Books on My Reading List: Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Nightwing and more

This is a really big Comic Book Wednesday for me. There are quite a few books that I want to read and this is when I wish comic books were free. Between comic books and regular books, reading can be expensive.

Book: Supergirl issue #20

Description:

Supergirl is dead—Long live Supergirl! Or so it seems as the strange connection between the Karas has Power Girl becoming Supergirl again.
----

I can't wait to read this to see what happened after the last issue. I've never really been a fan of Power Girl (or Woman as she should be called) but she wasn't too bad in the last issue.

Book: Gambit issue #12

Description:

GAMBIT may be in over his head…JOELLE, the woman he’s fighting to save, the one he may be falling for, is on the brink of death. But could the secret she’s been keeping be the key to her survival? Meanwhile, Gambit’s former flame and current Uncanny Avenger ROGUE must decide whether she’ll help him save Joelle or bring him in. And the villainous TOMBSTONE? Well, he’s willing to cut down any and all of ‘em to get what he wants...
----

Still wish Rogue and Gambit were together but at least they're working together.

Book: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man issue #23

Description:

Will tragedy force Miles to quit?! Bombshell is back! An all new Cloak and Dagger!!!
---

I really hope Miles doesn't quit. I like Miles, he's a lot of fun.

Book: Nova issue #4

Description:

The mysteries surrounding the disappearance of Sam’s dad deepen and the helmet leads Nova into intergalactic conflict that will affect the entire Marvel Universe!
----

Since I've been watching Ultimate Spider-Man the animated series, I found Nova to be an interesting character. I started reading this comic because of that cartoon.

Book: Avengers: The Enemy Within issue #1

Description:

Can’t keep a good Captain down! Vicious echoes of the Avengers’ past are cropping up all over Manhattan…and a grounded Captain Marvel refuses to be left behind. Who is the sinister figure behind these incursions and what does it have to do with Carol Danvers’ mysterious condition? But is this villain real or just a figment of Captain Marvel’s increasingly deadly imagination?
----

I'm already reading Captain America (the series is great), so hopefully this will be good too.

Book: Wonder Woman issue #20

Description:

Wonder Woman was certain there was one person in her life she could trust—but she thought wrong!
----

Anyone else tired of the baby story line? This New Gods story is starting to get old and it's boring. I want Wonder Woman back to her glory, not this weak watered down version. And there are way too many characters over shadowing Diana in her own book. Diana needs to move away from this "team" book.

She needs to be the focus of her own book. It would be so cool if she decided to restart her life in Washington, D.C. and got a job with a government agency (like the old TV series). Then maybe we could see her and Steve interact again (so when the fauxmance end they will already have a connection).

Book: Legion of Super-Heroes issue #20

Description:

The Fatal Five spread death on a galactic scale—and even the Legion may be powerless to stop them!
----

After this there will only be three issues left, can't believe another series has been canceled. I like the Legion series because they didn't have any big names on the team (nor did they need them) for this book to interesting. Maybe in the future the series will return.

Book: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe issue #2

Description:

In the second issue of the new, ongoing series, Hordak’s forces have invaded Eternia, and Despara’s identity is revealed! But what is her relationship to He-Man? And will he be able to stop her from killing everyone he loves?
-----

We all know who Despara is (again DC is horrible with spoilers), she's He-Man's twin sister. I hope her name is still Adora. I wonder what issue she'll get her sword so she can become She-Ra.

Book: Green Lantern: The Animated Series issue #13

Description:

The Interceptor crew visits an old friend for the intergalactic Aftel Cup Race! Hal puts his friend’s car through its paces as a mysterious competitor helps him out—and why is Lobo determined to stop him?
-----

I guess this will be the only way I can continue with the Green Lantern animated series. I really wish it hadn't been canceled that show was amazing.

Book: Sword of Sorcery issue #8

Description:

Eclipso brings destruction to the heart of House Amethyst in an epic 30-page story! Will Amaya finally master her heritage? On this day, a princess dies!
----

This is the last issue of Sword of Sorcery. I think the $3.99 price point killed the interest in this series. I have no idea why DC decided to charge that much for this book. I thought the series was good but hardly anyone was buying it, no surprise it was canceled.

Book: Justice League of America's Vibe issue #4

Description:

Why is Vibe battling Batman? Our hero is in way over his head when he’s forced to turn against A.R.G.U.S.!
----

Why does DC shoehorn Batman into everything? I love the character but they use him way too much. Anyway, I do like Vibe, he's fun. I really hope this series doesn't get canceled? Please people buy this book, you will like it. I don't want another series to be canceled before it gets a chance to find readers.

Book: Birds of Prey issue #20

Description:

The traitor revealed! Who will aid Mr. Freeze as he continues his onslaught against The Court of Owls—and how can the Birds hope to stop him?
----

The last issue wasn't bad considering it's the new 52 Birds of Prey so I'm hoping this issue will be as good and that's saying something. Since the start of the reboot this series has been hit and miss (mainly on the miss side) so if the series continues to be some what good then that's a real improvement.

Book: Nightwing issue #20

Description:

After witnessing so much death in the past few months, how will Nightwing react when he learns a key figure in his life has returned from the grave?
----

I'm not really a fan of Brett Booth's art and I'm still getting use to it. The last issue wasn't too bad, Dick is operating out of a new city and he's seems to have a bit more of his personality back. I enjoyed it, hopefully #20 will continue with the good writing.

Book: Batgirl issue #20

Description:

There’s no time to catch your breath after last issue’s shocking ending as an emotionally unstable Batgirl must confront one of Batman’s most violent foes: The Ventriloquist!
----

Anyone else tired of the depressing mood in Batgirl? I think Gail Simone is a great writer but why does she continue to make Barbara's life completely miserable. This series has just been so dark and gloomy but I would love to see Year One: Batgirl for a at least for few issues. Bring on the fun Gail.

Book: Catwoman issue #20

Description:

Membership in the Justice League of America is going to cost Catwoman the rest of her nine lives as Selina comes to grips with the deadly reality of her current imprisonment!
----

Why is this series starting to feel like it might be ending? Now that Catwoman is the JLA, she's lost her independence in her own book. I wish the JLA stuff would stay in that book and Catwoman should only focus on Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

Like Birds of Prey, this series has been hit and miss (again with more on the miss side), even with a new writer this book continues to struggle. I want Catwoman to go back to being her totally kick-butt dangerous self, the new 52 Catwoman is so lacking in finding Selina's personality and voice. Hopefully this issue will be good especially since Catwoman is one of my favorite characters.
