Book Review: American Vampire vol #1

Book: American Vampire volume #1 (issues #1-5) by Scott Snyder and Stephen King with Illustration by Rafael Albuquerque with color by Dave McCaig

Source: Library

Rating: 4 stars

Review:

The part that I enjoyed the most was Pearl Jones' story which I gave all the four stars to. I didn't really care for Skinner Sweet's origin story it didn't really give the reader much to go on other than he is self-centered and has an affinity for sweets and violence. Yes, it showed how he became a vampire but there was nothing interesting about it.

While Pearl's story showed the reader a kind yet hard working young woman who had a dream of becoming an actress during the 1920s. But her dreams changed after being attacked by a group of vampires at a Hollywood party. However, from a surprisingly non-self-centered act from Sweet, Pearl was able to take her revenge against the ones who attacked her.

This was a good read but mainly for Pearl's revenge focused story. The artwork expresses the horror and violence of what you would think a vampire comic would entail.

I have the second volume from the library and will be reading it soon.
