Holiday Blues (Not Mine) and Christmas Books

Over drinks last night, my friend told me she can't stand Christmas and hasn't put up any decorations and doesn't plan to. She's bought gifts but doesn't plan to wrap them she's just going to put them in gift bags. She has zero interest in Christmas and wants it to hurry up and end.

We talked about a lot things last night but eventually we ended up discussing books, because we're bookaholics (well mostly I am). We started talking about really good Christmas books and for me "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens is one of my favorite. And a book I recommended to her with the mood she's currently in was "Skipping Christmas" John Grisham. I think she would really like it (and anyone else not in the holiday mood).

I was a little surprised by her confession because she's usually quite happy about the holidays but not this year. Is anyone else feeling the Holiday Blues? I guess with the way that the holiday festivities seem to be getting bigger and bigger each year it can feel too commercialized instead of meaningful.

Being the good friend that I am, I'm not going to bother her, she can celebrate or not celebrate anyway that she wants to. But I will invite her out from time to time to try keep her sprits up.

I'm one of those cheerful optimistic people which I know can be annoying when all someone wants to do is feel down. But I do hope she doesn't get too down.
