365 Days of Books of Interest: Day #59: Hawk

I love when characters fight for a cause, it gives the story a little something extra. Hawk seems like it will be an interesting book with environmental issues as the focus.

Book: Hawk by Jennifer Dance

Description:

When a First Nations teen rescues a fish-hawk from a tailings pond in Alberta's oil sands, he has no idea that soon they will both be fighting for their lives.

Adam is a cross-country runner who aims to win gold in the upcoming provincial championship. But suddenly he finds himself in a different race, one that he can‘t afford to lose. The animals that share his childhood home are in a race against time, too, their forest and muskeg habitat vanishing, their lives hanging in the balance. Taking back the name Hawk, given to him by his grandfather, the teen longs to stand up for the voiceless creatures that share his world. With a little help from his grandfather and his friends, he might just succeed. If he survives long enough to do it.
