Catwoman, Will She Be in the DC Comics Rebirth?

This pass Saturday, DC Comics unveiled most of the creative teams for their upcoming Rebirth. Everything sounds good and I'm actually surprised to find myself excited for the reboot, there are quite a lot of books that I'm interested in reading.

However, there is one thing that I'm not happy about and that's the lack of information about Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman (and Poison Ivy but that's for another post). The current Catwoman series will be cancelled prior to the start of Rebirth, so where will that leave Gotham's notorious thief?

I find it interesting that Batgirl will not only have her own series but will also be featured in Batgirl & The Birds of Prey. The Harley Quinn series will be returning and Harley will also be seen in the Suicide Squad. There will be many characters featured in multiple books but so far no information has been given about where Catwoman will be or what will happen to her. There is a rumor that she may be in Scott Snyder's All-Star Batman series. I'm waiting to see if that rumor turns out to be true.

Perhaps DC Comics is weighing their options in regards to Catwoman. Because it's no secret that the New 52/DC You run of the Catwoman series was a mixed bag of good and unbelievably bad with a lot leaning towards the latter. But most of that was due to some bad writing and mishandling of the character. I think with a good creative team and a clear focus as to who Catwoman is and where the series would go, a new series could potentially be a top seller.

Catwoman is a very popular character and the New 52/DC You should have made her even more so and brought in more fans. However, that series was plagued with problem, starting with the first issue. The series has struggled through ups and down in regards to sales and the most recent sale numbers according to Comichron are bad. Their February 2016 figures has Catwoman's estimated sales at $13,659. Those are not good numbers.

All of that aside, Catwoman has been around for 76 years (she made her first appearance in Batman #1 in 1940) and I'm sure DC Comics is not about to let her sit on the shelf for too long. Hopefully at some point during the restructuring of this Rebirth, they will announce a new Catwoman series. Until then, I will remember the old saying that "Everything Old Is New Again" and that the Gotham City Siren will return sooner or later.
