Book Review: A Body To Die For

Book: A Body To Die For (Bailey Weggins Mystery book #2) by Kate White

Edition: Paperback

Rating: 5 stars

Review:

This was my first time reading anything from the Bailey Weggins series and starting off with the second book in the series didn't hamper my reading experience.

A Body To Die For, definitely held my attention, it's a fast paced engaging mystery that follows 30-something freelance writer Baily Weggins who was planning to enjoy a weekend away from New York City. She was going to Danielle "Danny" Hubner, a family friend's resort spa Cedar Inn and Spa in Warren, Massachusetts.

What should have been a relaxing getaway quickly turned deadly when Bailey and one of the spa therapists stumbled upon a body in the spa wrapped up mummy style. Wanting to do anything she could to help out her friend Danny, Bailey decided to look into the murder. Despite her experience writing true crime articles, this was more difficult than she anticipated because the more clues and suspects she found the more questions she had and not to mention she found herself on the killer's radar.

I like this book it was a well written thrilling quick read full of drama and suspense but it also had some well placed humor. Something that I enjoyed was that the mystery does keep you guessing until the end. There was also little bit of romance angst in this. Bailey was trying to sort out her feeling for Psychology Professor Jack Herlihy who recently came back into her life and her growing attraction to Detective Beck who is running the murder investigation.

Bailey is a likeable character she's smart and witty however she can be a little mean and judgmental at times. But that's more to do with her dry sense of humor. She's very inquisitive yet not overly reckless which is a surprising combination you don't necessarily find in a lot of mysteries.

This was a fun read and now I want to read the rest of the books in the series. Why do I keep finding these really good books? It's not as if I'm looking for poorly written ones but it would be nice to find one that's not very good every now and then.
