Happy Birthday to Luna Lovegood! Although her first appearance wasn't until the fifth book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, she is such a memorable character that you forget that she wasn't there from the beginning. A lovable oddball who enjoys being different and not feeling the least bit need to try to fit in, how can you not love that?

I admire Luna's ability to not care what others think and to go after the things that interest her even if she's picked on or teased for it. Reading the book series you see why she was selected to be in Ravenclaw, because despite her flightiness, she is smart and wise and has a huge interest and curiosity in learning.

Yes, she's odd but that's what makes her such an appealing character. Who wants to be like everyone else, Luna excels at standing out, be it from her quirky personality to her equally quirky clothes. It's hard to forget her.
