Girlboss: Why Didn't It Get A Second Season?

I'm still disappointed that Netflix didn't give Girlboss a second season, in fact the show was cancelled. I don't know why, the first season was fantastic. Britt Robertson was amazing portraying Sophia Amoruso, the wayward founder of the fashion site Nasty Gal.

The first season which was loosely based on Amoruso's life showed a Sophia who didn't know what to do with her life and it didn't help that she got fired from her job at a shoe store. Truthfully, her heart wasn't into that job but an unexpected find (a really cool vintage jacket) at a thrift store was just what she needed to embark on starting up a business selling clothes on eBay.

For some reason the show didn't connect with some viewers and reviewers. Many of the complaints that I saw about the show was that it was terrible and that Sophia was unlikeable. The show was far from terrible and as I mentioned above it was fantastic. It was funny yet had many emotional moments. The writing was great and so was the acting.

And as for Sophia, she was abrasive, self-centered, outspoken and obnoxious among other things but not everyone is going to be the adorable Mary Poppins. Sophia definitely had a chip on her shoulder and she let the world know it. But what she lacked in manners and a sunny dispositions, she more than made up for it in her own special way. Throughout the show you can see that she hid her feelings behind a tough persona but you could see that she cared about her father, her friends and creating a successful business. Not everyone is going to have a likeable personality and I like that Sophia wasn't like every other character you see on TV or in movies. She's very memorable.

What I like about Girlboss besides being a delightful show is that it's inspiring and empowering. Sophia figured out what she wanted to do and went after it. She did it on her terms and although she faced many setbacks, she didn't let that stop her.

I enjoyed watching this show and it really is disappointing that it was cancelled. I know some shows don't make it but it's unfortunate when a good series is axed. I hope at some point Netflix will release it on DVD as they have done with some of their other shows. It might have been a short lived series but Girlboss is not easily forgotten by fans.
