The marketing for The Death Cure, the finale film in The Maze Runner series, is really starting to gear up. It's a good thing since the movie will be out in theatres on January 26th and the only marketing at the time was a teaser trailer that was released back in September.
It's understandable that 20th Century Fox did not want to waste the film's marketing budget promoting it too early but waiting too late is not good either. But I think right now is the perfect time to promote The Death Cure with there being only 50 days before the film's release it gives the studio plenty of time to promote it. From releasing promotional material to the actors being interviewed that's a good amount of time to capture the fans attention and get them excited about the movie.
Online I had started to notice fans were getting a little antsy wondering when the posters and full length trailer were going to be released. It appears that someone at the studio must have been listening because recently several posters for both the movie and some of the characters have been released followed by a teaser video and another video of the cast recapping the first two movies. But the real anticipation will be for tomorrow (Friday, 12/8) when the finale full length trailer will be released. And not to be forgotten, a movie tie-in book cover for the paperback edition of The Death Cure by James Dashner will also be published a day after Christmas.
So far, I think the marketing is off to a good start but I do wonder if there will be any merchandise (i.e. Funkos, apparel, etc.) for the movie beside a tie-in book? As a fan, I can't wait to see the finale movie and hope it will be amazing especially considering it's for a genre I keep hearing is no longer popular. But I don't think fans care about that sort of thing, all we care about if the movie will be good and a great ending to the series.
