I love going to the movies but I was wondering why there is not a small kiosk or stand set up to sell books at movie theaters? With so many movies adapted from books, that would be a great opportunity and location for publishers to sell the books to movie goers who may be interested in reading the book a movie is based on.
For instance when I went to see The Maze Runner I had not read the book but after watching the first movie I was definitely interested in reading the book and more than likely would have bought the book if it was being sold at the theatre. I eventually bought the boxset of the series later on from the bookstore but not selling books at the theatre is truly a missed opportunity.
If I had a movie theatre I would certainly look into doing something like this. The theatres would not have to sell the books on a long term basis just perhaps a couple of weeks once the movie is released. I don't think if theatres did this that it would discourage anyone from going to the bookstore but this idea would simply be an opportunity to reach readers who perhaps might not venture into a bookstore on a regular basis.
Not everyone who goes to the theatre wants to buy food and drinks but are perhaps looking for something different and books could be that. However, I know that there is a financial risk to selling anything that's not food and drinks which is probably why you don't see a lot of merchandise also being sold. But as a book fan, I'm always looking for new ways to interest people into reading.
So, what do you think, should theatres sell books?

My daughter loved the Peter Rabbit movie so much that I had to buy her a few of the books. I think if the movie theaters sold books it wouldn't be a bad thing especially for children's movies.
See that's exactly what I was talking about. There is such a missed opportunity in getting books to readers who are interested in reading books that the movies were based on.
