Why Can't The Flash's Iris West be a Reporter and the Leader of Team Flash?

One of the things I love about the earlier seasons of The Flash was that Iris West was one of the first to report on Central City's new hero, The Streak (later to be named The Flash). Her curiosity really couldn't be contained, she had to know more about The Streak and all the strange things that were happening in the city. And all the hard work she put into gathering information and posting it on her blog gave her the opportunity to not only put the truth out there. But it also led to her getting a job as a reporter for the Central City Picture News.

Which is why I was a little disappointed that the show took the focus off her journalistic endeavors to focus more on her working with Team Flash. It's been left sort of ambiguous as to whether or not she still works at the newspaper with all of her time being shown working with Team Flash. But it does look like she is going back to blogging which might be an interesting way for her to refocus on her journalism career. I like Iris being a reporter because it shows that she doesn't need powers or to be a superhero to make a difference.

There should have been a balance shown with Iris working with Team Flash and still being a reporter. Iris' life should not revolve only around superheroes, they need to show that she has a life outside of that. She's more than just the team leader and Barry Allen's wife, she is a complex character with interests of her own.

If Iris going back to blogging is her entry back into journalism then I hope it leads to her chasing down stories while still giving her time to be the leader of Team Flash. There is no reason why she can't do both, it should be easy since she has already excelled at both individually.
