With so many comic book/superhero shows, reboot, revivals and spin-off, its starting to feel like new original content is sometimes being overlooked. During this most recent round of cuts from TV Networks, some of my favorite shows were cancelled including two new shows I absolutely adore: Alex, Inc. (ABC) and Life Sentence (CW).
Thankfully all of us fans were able to save one of my other favorite shows Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it was cancelled by FOX but was picked up by NBC. I was so happy when the news broke that B99 was saved but what about all the other shows that have been cancelled. I don't want TV (and movies) to become stagnant and not give new ideas a chance because its not a sure thing (a.k.a. profitable) like the reboots, revivals and comic book/superhero shows.
I'm not saying that we have to watch every show that's new and original but I'm hoping viewers will at least give the shows a chance. I hear people complaining all the time about there are no new shows, stories, characters, etc on TV but when new shows air no one watches them. Instead they watch the same old things over and over again yet still complain about there being nothing new on TV.
As a fan of comic book/superhero shows, I get it, those reboots, revivals and comic book shows are safe and familiar and sometimes invokes a sense of nostalgia. But it's so refreshing to see new shows. I have made a decision that from now on, if there is a new show that I like I'm going to make sure I talk about it. Who knows maybe it might interest someone else in watching it as well.
I would love to know what you think, are new and original TV shows are being overlooked for reboots, revivals, spin-offs and superhero shows?
