I Don't Want to Collect Books, I Want to Read Them!

I keep seeing articles about Tsundoku which pretty much means people buying books (audio, digital or physical) and never reading them. Some of the articles state that it's okay to buy a lot of books and not read them but it's like what's the point of doing that other than being a book collector.

I don't want to collect books, I want to read them. The joy of buying books is reading them. I see no point in having tons of books on the shelf that are either collecting dust or being used only as decoration. Plus, you're wasting money by buying a lot of books especially if you are not intending to read them.

As with so many other book lovers or bookaholics, I love to buy books (my bookcases are filled with them) but I love reading books even more. I love finding new stories whether they're new releases or older and after years of being a voracious reader I still have not lost the excitement of starting a new book.

I can't help wondering how many books go unread because they are being collected. If you love to read but find yourself starting to collect or hoard books try to break out of that habit and make an effort to read your books. You don't want to miss out on finding a really good story.
