MCU's May Parker is More Than Just Her Looks

I thought Spider-Man: Homecoming was an amusing and interesting movie but I was disappointed with how limited May Parker's role in the movie was. The movie made May seem inconsequential to Peter's life. As a comic book fan, I know that Peter Parker is the main character but that doesn't mean that supporting characters should not have depth or a role within the movie. Apparently the only function the Marvel Cinematic Universe's May had was to be Peter's pretty aunt because the movie made a point of having others state how attractive she was. That's disappointing because shouldn't May Parker be more than just her looks?

And what irritates me is that the movie didn't show her having a life outside of being Peter's Aunt. Did May have a job? I don't know, it certainly wasn't mentioned.

In the movie, she was also shown as being the "cool fun" aunt cracking jokes which is fine but I wanted to see more of a concerned May Parker (other than that one scene of Peter talking about losing his Stark Internship) who was guiding Peter through life. Because in the movie, Peter was starting to become very overwhelmed with everything from trying to be a superhero to trying to date and he could have used a bit more of her guidance. I wish there had been more scenes between May and Peter other than the few that were in the movie.

It will be interesting to see how May will deal with knowing that Peter is Spider-Man in the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home. I do hope that she will be given a bigger role in the second movie because she's more than her looks and more than Peter's aunt, otherwise what's the point of even having her in the movie.
