Question of the Day: Do Adaptations Get More Promotion Than The Books?

Does it feels like the adaptation gets more attention than the book? I know there are some exceptions such as with prominent books like Harry Potter and others but most of the time most movie goers and TV audience don't even realize that what they are watching is based on a book.

When the movies and TV shows are being promoted why don't the publishers do more to promote the books? For instance the Bird Box movie on Netflix is a big success and there has been nonstop talk about it. However, what I don't see anyone talking about is the book it's based on which is written by Josh Malerman.

With so many books turned into movies and TV shows, you would think the books would be more prominently featured in interviews, articles, advertisement, etc.. How do you get people interested in reading the original source material if they don't even know that the books exist?
