Question of the Day: What's Your Opinion of Harley Quinn from the "Birds of Prey" TV Series?

What did I think of the Birds of Prey TV series version of Harley Quinn?

Well, first, I completely overlooked that Mia Sara was the first to portray a live-action version of Harley Quinn, albeit in this short-lived TV series. And second, I think I've gained a new perspective of this version of the character, because when I first watched the show, I thought Harley should not have been the main villain but I can say now that I was wrong. In this series, Dr. Harleen Quinzel flew under the superheroes' radar as being a villain that is until the final episode "Devil's Eyes".

(Birds of Prey season 1 episode 1 "Pilot")

Dr. Quinzel worked at her day job as a psychologist supposedly helping people with their problems while also mining them for information. Following the Joker's arrest, she was preparing to carry out her plan to take over as the new crime boss of New Gotham City. She was slyly putting into place various plans and also manipulating other criminals and villains into doing her bidding to carry out her plans. The only thing standing in her way was the Birds of Prey.

I still think the Birds of Prey TV series was not the best, it definitely had its share of problems from bad writing, generic metahuman villains of the week and the series not really knowing what to do with the main characters or the show. However, I like that the series actually focused on Harley being a Doctor of Psychology and showing her being crafty and intelligent as she set out to take over New Gotham. She still had that sense of wackiness and insanity to her but it wasn't her only characteristic. I feel like this sharp-witted and clever interpretation was a rather refreshing and interesting take because the Queen of Fools is so often shown in most comics, animated series and movies as being an extremely wacky and bubbly slightly dim-witted character.

Although, Harley never wore a costume in this show, she did wear clothes in her signature red and black colors. I would like to think that if this show had not been cancelled and the creative team had did a better job of crafting this series, it would have been great to see more of this version of Harley Quinn.
