Teen Wolf's Allison Argent and her Tragic Hero's Journey

What I like about Teen Wolf's Allison Argent is that she's a complex character that struggled with feeling weak and being easily influenced to transforming into a spectacularly confident and courageous person.

A terrifying experience of Allison and her friends being trapped in their high school being hounded by a killer made her never wanted to feel weak and vulnerable again. Allison is smart as well as being an accomplished archer but what she lacked was the confidence and training to handle difficult and dangerous situations. Unfortunately, her desire to be stronger made it easier for her Aunt Kate and her Grandfather Gerard to manipulate her into carrying out their evil plans.

I wasn't surprised when Allison turned evil during the first and second seasons of Teen Wolf, just look at her family who were hunters of supernatural creatures. They claimed they followed the code "of hunting those who hunt them" and only operated to protect people. However her aunt, grandfather and mother Victoria had a hatred that was so ingrained of supernatural creatures especially werewolves that they didn't follow the code. They were attacking and killing werewolves without any cause or provocation. Her father Chris (who was the only one to follow the code) was her one saving grace but even he wasn't aware as to how horrible his family was. He was shocked to learn the truth that his sister Kate was responsible for the fire that killed most of Derek Hale's family. He also didn't seem to realize that his father Gerard was not only manipulating him but his daughter as well. I doubt he knew the truth that his wife Victoria was trying to kill Scott McCall which led to her death. Chris may not have been sympathetic towards supernatural beings but he wasn't as hateful and cruel as the rest of his family.

After Allison found out the truth about her Aunt Kate, she was able to reject everything her aunt stood for. However, after her mother died, she was in an extremely vulnerable state which made it very easy for her grandfather to turn her against the supernatural (and her friends) once again.

I think finding out she had been used by her grandfather really changed Allison because by the third season she was no longer so easily influenced. Besides trying to make amends for her actions of attacking some of her friends, she had become stronger as she took on the role of being a protector alongside her father (who had also changed his perception about supernatural beings) and they were even following a new code of "protecting those who cannot protect themselves".

Allison Argent's point of view may have been temporarily warped by her aunt and grandfather but she eventually became a better person. She had become a hero who was doing everything she could to help others but tragically died trying to save her best friend Lydia Martin. Ultimately, it's a tragic hero's journey of a young woman who was trying to find her way in the midst of family and supernatural conflict.
