Happy Friday!
I guess Spider-Man has been on my mind lately since the new movie Spider-Man: Far From Home will be in theatres next week which I'm super excited to see.
Despite my excitement for the upcoming movie, there is something that annoys me about Peter Parker's story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movies seem to have pushed aside May Parker in favor of pushing the narrative that Tony Stark is Peter Parker's father figure. I find that to be so insulting to May who is Peter's only parent and I feel like she doesn't get enough credit nor appreciation for all that she does in raising her nephew. I do wish her and Peter had more scenes together in Spider-Man: Homecoming but in the few scenes they do have together she was both a friend and concerned parent.

It annoys me that Spider-Man's story in the MCU is very intertwined and heavily influenced by Tony Stark. I adore Tony but he didn't need to be so involved in Peter's life and not to mention Peter's non-stop hero worship which could have been balanced by showing his appreciation for both his Aunt May and late Uncle Ben. I hope Spider-Man: Far From Home will have more meaningful scenes between Peter and May.
The death of his Uncle Ben (and his guilt from unintentionally causing it) has always been the reason why Peter decided to become a hero. However, in the MCU it makes it seems as if his motivation to be a hero includes an emphasis in impressing Tony Stark.
I miss the Spider-Man who was a hero in his own right and was independent, confident, self-reliant, inventive and didn't need to wear a technologically advanced suit created for him by Tony Stark. Peter has always been smart but he seems so dependent on Tony Stark that he lacks the self-confidence to be the capable hero that he should be. I hope the new movie will show that Peter has learned to believe in himself especially now that his idol, Tony Stark is dead.
