Is Dark Phoenix's Low Box Numbers Signaling Superhero Fatigue?

It's being reported that Dark Phoenix didn't do well at the box office with the movie landing at second place and only grossing $33 million for its opening weekend. That's a good amount of money but not for a movie such as this which is also the finale film in Twentieth Century Fox's X-Men franchise.

I'm wondering if the low box office numbers were due to negative reviews from critics (and some fans) causing some movie goers not to see the movie or are fans starting to lose interest in superhero/comic book movies. If it's the latter, it's understandable because there have been quite a lot of superhero movies that have been released and with more on the way. As much as I love superhero/comic book movies, I know that at some point superhero fatigue is bound to set in with some movie fans.

I guess it will be determined if fans are starting to get tired of this genre of movies once Spider-Man: Far from Home is released on July 5th. Hopefully, that movie will do well along with many of the upcoming movies such as Wonder Woman 1984 (which is in theaters in June 5, 2020). However, if these movies do start to do poorly at the box office, Hollywood studios will most likely start to regroup in order to find another genre that will bring in the money. It doesn't matter if us fans loves these movies, if Hollywood can't make a profit then it will be less superhero movies in the future which honestly doesn't feel that super.
