Characters Reading: Joe Fox (You've Got Mail)

There are just some movies I wished I had found sooner and "You've Got Mail" is one of them. I watched it for the first time last year and I immediately loved it. The movie follows Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) who owns The Shop Around the Corner, a small children's bookstore, who was trying to save her business after the recent opening of Fox Books, a big corporate franchise bookstore run by Joe Fox (Tom Hanks).

Joe was all about sales numbers and crushing small businesses while Kathleen truly loved books and reading. Although they were fighting publicly, they unknowingly bonded through an online friendship that was growing into something more.

In the movie, Joe was trying to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen but I think the reason he couldn't enjoy it was that he was too cynical. Pride and Prejudice is a beautifully written and engaging story but he saw it as something ridiculous and boring when it's a story full of love and misunderstandings which goes perfectly with this movie.
