Comic Book Wednesday: October 9th Picks

I can't say it enough, I love comics and to think we have a day devoted to new comics. Aside from my usual group of books, I have one new book on my list: The Batman's Grave (miniseries). I realized that DC Comics books on my list are mainly Batman and Batman related characters. That rarely ever happens. Anyway, what books are you picking up today?

Archie Comics

Book: Jughead: The Hunger vs Vampironica #5

Description:

This is it! The world-shattering conclusion to the epic horror crossover event of the year! Will Jughead and Vampironica succeed in setting everything right between their respective realities- or will the army of blood suckers reign on Riverdale forever?

Boom! Studios

Book: Go Go Power Rangers #24

Description:

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! It's The Power Rangers vs Lord Zedd, as seen through the-literal-lens of Bulk & Skull. But can these two film the latest episode of Ranger Station and truly escape unscathed?

DC Comics

Book: Batman vs Ra's al Ghul #2 (of 6)

Description:

While Bruce Wayne confronts his wards at Wayne Manor (they seem to believe there’s a Batcave in the basement?), Batman is having a far worse time. Ra’s al Ghul has arranged for him to suffer, and when the villain emerges from the shadows, the detective pays in pain!

Book: The Batman's Grave #1 (of 12)

Description:

The World’s Greatest Detective must try to inhabit the mind of a murder victim to solve a case-without filling the empty grave next to those of his parents. Can Batman imagine the life of a corpse with a half-eaten face without dying himself?

Book: Catwoman #16

Description:

Selina Kyle joins the Year of the Villain! Finally, Lex Luthor’s gift to Catwoman is revealed. While she wants to remain on the side of good, some habits are too hard to break, and some treasures too tempting. Plus, the gift puts Catwoman one step ahead of her top criminal rival in Villa Hermosa, the diabolical Raina Creel. In this big new story arc, Eisner-nominated writer/artist JoĆ«lle Jones brings together the many plot threads she’s been building since the series’ launch, prepping Catwoman for her next grand adventure. But will she come out the other side as a hero…or villain?

Book: Detective Comics #1013

Description:

Mr. Freeze is so close to reviving Nora but Batman can’t let it happen. Mr. Freeze has never been more vicious or more deadly. There’s nothing more dangerous than a desperate man with a cold gun and Gotham City is going to learn that firsthand!

Book: Gotham City Monsters #2 (of 6)

Description:

Melmoth’s attack on Gotham City has immediate consequences for the denizens of Monster Town, and the losses suffered by Frankenstein and the other monsters have suddenly made this very, very personal. It’s up to Frankie to convince his cohorts that they need to band together against this common threat, lest all of Gotham-nay, the Multiverse!-fall to the might of his old master. But before they can do that, they must first answer the question: Who is the Red Phantom?

Book: Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy #2 (of 6)

Description:

Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are on the run with the Floronic Man hot on their trail, desperate for Poison Ivy to understand her connection to the Green and join his new Parliament of Flowers. Knowing Gotham City isn’t the safest place for them under the new Bane order, Harley takes a hard left down a rabbit hole to seek sanctuary with a former patient and colleague, Jervis Tetch-a.k.a. the Mad Hatter-but his wonderland home isn’t all that it seems!

Marvel Comics

Book: Absolute Carnage: Miles Morales #3 (of 3)

Description:

THREATS WITHIN AND WITHOUT! A serial killer released from Ravencroft, the commands of Carnage, J. Jonah Jameson, and SILVER SABLE! Miles must wrestle all of these while his mind is not his own! Will a connection to the Cult of Carnage’s collective subconscious give him an edge that pays off in the greater war? Or will that two-way connection compromise Spider-Man--fatally?

Book: Loki #4

Description:

EARTH’S CLEVEREST HERO! Loki’s death has been foretold by THE CHILDREN OF ETERNITY, the Fear Lord NIGHTMARE has come for vengeance, and among the FROST GIANTS, rebellion is brewing. Book: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #49

Description:

IT’S THE PENULTIMATE ISSUE OF SQUIRREL GIRL! It’s also the ULTIMATE issue of Squirrel Girl, at least until the next and last one comes out. Wait, I’m getting word that’s what “penultimate” means - okay, nevermind. In this issue: Squirrel Girl faces off against her arch nemesis, with just some friends and a dressed-only-in-his-underwear Tony Stark at her side. Can she win?? See, normally you’d say “yes, of course she can, it’s right there in the title” but this is our second-last issue! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! INCLUDING SHOCKING TWISTS!! Please enjoy the several (SEVERAL) shocking twists in this issue, including the (already established as shocking) return of a beloved character!
