Weekend Film: Charlie's Angels

Did Charlie's Angels need yet another remake? With so many remakes and reboots it feels like Hollywood is constantly kicking the same rocks over and over again instead of finding new ones.

The original Charlie's Angels TV series aired in the 70s starring Jaclyn Smith, David Doyle, Cheryl Ladd, Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Shelley Hack and Tanya Roberts. However, it wasn't until the 2000s that the reboot craze hit the series. First with a couple of successful movies released in 2000 and 2003 that starred Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore. Second was a not so successful TV series that aired in 2011 (it was promptly cancelled) that starred Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Ramon Rodriguez.

I'm a big Charlie's Angels fan, I have seen and have on DVD all of the previously mentioned shows and movies above. Yes, even that horrible 2011 TV series. Even though, I'm not exactly thrilled or excited about this latest installment in the franchise, I do want to see it. Maybe it'll be a fun movie.

It just feels like each remake and reboot has moved so far away from the original concept of former police officers (and one former model, Tanya Roberts' character Julie Rogers) becoming private investigators/detectives into this huge operation that it really doesn't feel like Charlie's Angels except in name only. Anyway, I still want to see this, I'm hoping it will be good.
