My Thoughts on How the Sex and the City Revival Could Work Without Samantha Jones

There are a lot of articles, posts and fans commenting about the new Sex and the City revival And Just Like That. Many are wondering and speculating how the show will be without Kim Cattrall. On the SATC show and movies, Cattrall played Samantha Jones whose character was very popular. Which is why I can understand why so many fans are questioning how the revival will be since she will not star in the show.

This made me think of what happened with the TV series Girlfriends when one of the actresses did not return to the series. Girlfriends was an early 2000s series that was set in Los Angeles that centered around Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross) and her friends Antoinette "Toni" Childs (Jill Marie Jones), Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks) and Lynn Searcy (Persia White).

Similar to Sex and the City, Jill Marie Jones' Girlfriends character Toni Childs was also very popular and when she didn't return after the six season, the show had to be revamped. In the final two seasons, the 7th and 8th, Girlfriends refocused on the other three main characters Joan, Maya and Lynn.

Although, the dynamics had changed which gave Girlfriends a slightly different feel, it was still the same funny and thought-provoking show as it was before. I think the Sex and the City revival will be fine with only Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York Goldenblatt as long as the show has good writing. I'm excited to see And Just Like That because I want to see where these characters are in this limited series and what new stories the show will give us.
