I finally watched 9-1-1's fifth season premiere episode Panic and I loved it. I'll write more about it in a review in another post but below are a few things that I didn't like.
Does anyone know why whenever there's a hospital scene, Dr. David Hale is never used for those scenes? It's a waste of his character not to use him. I still haven't forgotten the fourth season episode Breaking Point during the Covid vaccine scene when, TV News Reporter Taylor Kelly was used instead of Dr. Hale. And in this fifth season episode, when Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz had to go to the hospital for his panic attack (which I have thoughts on), why wasn't Dr. Hale used for this scene instead of Dr. Salazar who I had an issue with.
I feel like she violated some kind of patient/doctor confidentially agreement or something disclosing information about him. I didn't understand why when Dr. Salazar saw Eddie when he showed up at the hospital bringing in a patient with his co-workers, she alluded to his health issue while he was on the job. That was so unprofessional, she should have waited and quietly took Eddie aside and asked him how he was doing instead of saying something while he was working. And not to mention, she said it in front of his co-worker and you can tell he was caught off guard and was mad. It's not hard to miss that side-eye he gave her. From there he had to endure nonstop questions about it from his best friend/work husband Evan "Buck" Buckley.
I also didn't like how when Taylor and Buck were on the verge of having sex, she took Buck's phone and unlocked it without asking him. That was so inconsiderate and by the way, where was her phone? Anyway, I'm sure if she had simply asked, Buck would have unlocked it and let her use it. Instead she pushed the phone in his face to unlock it with facial id and proceeded to continue searching for news about the hacking. That feels like a red flag to me if someone in a relationship does that. You could tell he was annoyed by what she did but he didn't want to say anything because that's his girlfriend.
I noticed that on 9-1-1, female characters get a pass at doing things like this especially with Buck. As much as I like 9-1-1 dispatcher Abigail "Abby" Clark during the show's first season, she crossed a line in how she got Buck's phone number and started calling him. And also in the first season, Dr. Wells, the therapist who had sex with Buck. He was there getting help after he lost a patient on one of his emergency calls which unfortunately led to them having sex. A therapist is not supposed to have sex with their patients, that was unprofessional and also crossed a lot of lines. Now Taylor unlocking and using his phone is just another way the show seems to brush aside that type of behavior. All I can think of if a female main character kept getting treated like this by male characters, the show would get some backlash instead it feels like a double standard with all those incidents being showed as jokey or cutesy instead of bad.
Anyway, there was so much I loved about this episode but these scenes really annoyed me. I'll make sure to post something about the entire episode later.
