On 9-1-1, how did the LAFD Updates Twitter account get a million followers?

The 9-1-1 fifth season finale Starting Over, completely glossed over 9-1-1 Dispatcher May Grant mentioning to her friend and co-worker LAFD Liaison Edmundo "Eddie" Diaz that the LAFD Updates Twitter account got a million followers. I know that was just some throw away line as a way to segue to Eddie asking May how her step dad and his former Captain, Robert "Bobby" Nash was doing. But I just can't get over the updates account reaching a million followers. How?

It couldn't possible be due to as Eddie stated as the reason, the 118's ladder fire truck going over the cliff. He also said that "two days of tweets about traffic collisions and trash fires should take care of that" which I totally believe. But seriously, how does the fire truck going over a cliff correlate to the LAFD Updates account getting a million followers? I can see the 118's Twitter account gaining more followers after the accident with their truck but not the LAFD Updates account.

The increase in followers had to be due to something Eddie did. Maybe he went on a rant about the infamous Los Angeles traffic or he responded to trolling tweets with slightly sarcastic yet still informative remarks. Maybe he post fire prevention and safety tips that are actually helpful. Perhaps, he accidently posted something he didn't mean to on the LAFD Updates account that was supposed to go on his personal account. And even though he deleted it, maybe he kept getting more followers in hopes that he'll post more accidental stuff. I'm really interested in knowing how he got a million followers because I really can't believe it had anything to due with the 118's ladder truck accident.
